Kids In Major Chinese Cities Lack Independence

Children in China's major cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Chongqing are lacking independence, according to a recent survey conducted by the Beijing Oriental Star Institute of Pre-Schooling Education.

"Their dependence upon their parents does not lessen as they get older," the survey report said.

According to the report, among those surveyed, only 25 percent of three-year-olds, and 45 percent kids aged six, dress themselves regularly.

The report also said that 20 percent of the children surveyed, at both three and six years old, often cry.

In addition, 50 percent of these kids turn to others for help when in difficulty, 20 percent want others to do what should and can be done by them, and 40 percent don't have their own views at all.

"This situation must be addressed by the entire society," the report said.
