Schoolmaster Sentenced for Grafting Million Yuan

A schoolmaster in northeast China was sentenced to 16 years in prison by a local court Tuesday for grafting nearly one million educational funds.

Ye Lie, former schoolmaster of the No.6 Middle School in Fushun city in northeast China's Liaoning Province, grafted nearly one million yuan of tuition fees that students paid during September 1996 to August 1998.

According to government rules, the government-run school has to hand over all the tuition fees that students paid to educational authorities. However, Ye and several other staff members at the school diverted a large sum to secret bank accounts and then put the money into their own pockets.

Other staff involved were given 2 to 12 years' imprisonment by the local court.
