Sino-Spanish Relations Hailed

Zhang Wannian, vice chairman of the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China, Tuesday hailed Chinese-Spanish relations which he said have developed smoothly in recent years.

Zhang made the remarks during official talks in Madrid with Spanish Defense Minister Federico Trillo.

The two countries have enhanced cooperative relations in politics, economy, science and technology and culture, he said.

He added that the two armies have exchanged high-ranking visits and have conducted exchanges in many fields at different levels, which have positively promoted mutual understanding, trust and friendship.

China is willing to make joint efforts with Spain to build long-term stable, comprehensive and friendly cooperative relations, said the Chinese military leader, who arrived here Monday at the invitation of Trillo.

Zhang reiterated China's principled position on the Taiwan issue, stressing that the foundation and the precondition of solving the issue is the "one-China" principle, and that any form of "independence of Taiwan" is definitely not allowed.

Trillo said Zhang's visit to Spain will further the development of bilateral friendly cooperation between the two countries.
