China to Promote Nuclear Technology IndustrializationChina will take active measures to promote industrialization of nuclear technology, according to news from a symposium on nuclear technology industrialization held recently in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan province.Co-sponsored by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the China Nuclear Industry Group Company, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the symposium focuses on summarizing the successful experiences achieved in China's nuclear industrialization and exploring ways to further promote China's nuclear technology industrialization and adopt necessary measures to solve the urgent problems arising in the process. Since New China was founded in 1949, abundant technological and intellectual resources have been accumulated in the realm of nuclear technology. Said technology has contributed greatly to the country's economic development especially since the 1980s. Besides nuclear power which has become part of the new energy industry, other nuclear techniques, such as nuclear radiation, ion implantation, isotope and nuclear detection, have been widely applied to the fields of industry, agriculture, medicine, and bioengineering, with some of them having taken initial shape of industry. It is reported that, presently nuclear technology has formed into a fairly large new hi-tech industry in the world, and the total value of nuclear radiation processing had reached US$ 200 billion five years ago. What's more, among the US$ 140 billion worldwide sales of microelectronics industry, one-third were related to nuclear techniques. |
