Guangdong Leads China in Industrial Added Value

Guangdong Province, an economic powerhouse in south China, led the country in terms of industrial added value in March, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The latest figures from the bureau show that Guangdong's industrial added value in the month stood at 22.48 billion yuan ( about 2.7 billion U.S. dollars), surging 13.1 percent over the same month last year.

The province was followed by east China's Shandong Province, which reported an industrial added value of 20.67 billion yuan, and Jiangsu Province, of 20.55 billion yuan.

The national figure in the month stood at 188.2 billion yuan, up 11.9 percent.

A pioneer in China's reform and opening up drive, Guangdong has developed a full-blown processing industry and a large proportion of its enterprises are export-oriented.
