The State Forestry Bureau recently published two schemes to give strong scientific and technological support to the planned sand-control project.
Desertification is one of the most serious ecological problems in China. Due to the large areas, different types and complicated causes of desertification, it entails difficult design and high technical requirements for controlling sand. Besides, most of the desertified regions are less developed economically, scientifically and technologically. Hence, to launch a large sand-control project, there must be strong scientific support to guarantee the quality and efficiency of the project.
These supporting schemes will divide the project into different types according to different natural conditions in the desertified regions and adopt different measures and methods.
Through the implementation of various types of scientific measures, the utilization rate of the trees and grasses of fine breeds will rise 3 percent each year, thus desertification will be gradually brought under control.
