China Clamps down on Counterfeit Money

China's public security departments have seized counterfeit banknotes with a combined face value of 214 million yuan during a month-long nationwide action against fake money, the Ministry of Public Security disclosed on Monday.

The departments have so far cracked 1,800 cases of the production and trafficking in counterfeiting money, according to the anti-counterfeit office under the ministry.

The action was launched on April 3 when the State Council held a special televised meeting on stopping these crimes.

The public security departments will focus their efforts on the southeast coastal areas where counterfeiting is rampant.

According to the ministry, the action will last through September.
