Chinese Govt Delegation Winds Up Visit to Singapore

The Chinese government delegation led by State Councilor Ismail Aymat left Beijing Wednesday for a visit to Myanmar after winding up a two-day good-will visit to Singapore.

During his visit to Singapore, Ismail Aymat met with Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Lee Hsien Long Tuesday and they briefed each other on the efforts by their respective governments for national concord and religious harmony in their respective countries. Both of them stressed the importance of maintaining harmony between various nationalities and regions by various means including legislation.

Ismail Aymat also briefed the Singaporean side on China's strategy to develop its western part in which Lee Hsien Long expressed great interest.

The two expressed their pleasure over the existing excellent relations between China and Singapore and agreed to further strengthen the exchange between various religious groups and administrations in charge of religious affairs.

During his stay in the city state, Ismail Aymat also met some Singapore ministers, visited the Ministry of Community Development and Sports and the People's Association as well as the Moslem Religious Council, and made on-the-spot investigation of the newly- built Al-Istigamah Mosque, Singapore Buddhist Lodge and the Chao Chu Kang Community Club.
