China says it will help modernize Cuba's telecommunications network, with a financial agreement worth 200 million U.S. dollars.

The agreement was made during a meeting between the Chinese and Cuban Information Industry Ministers in the Cuban capital, Havana.

Under the agreement, China will help Cuba install 50,000 public telephone stations and one million service lines, most of which will be digitalized by the year 2004.
