China's largest metropolis Shanghai and Dubai of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an agreement on May 30 to establish sister-city relations.
According to the agreement, the two cities will encourage bilateral cooperation in economic, trade, scientific, technological and other sectors. They will also exchange technological information and carry out numerous cultural exchanges.
Shanghai Mayor Xu Kuangdi and chief executive officer of Dubai Qasem Sultan signed the agreement on behalf of the two cities.
Shanghai has so far established sister-city relations with 47 cities in foreign countries.
