Defense Minister Meets Thai GuestsDefense Minister Chi Haotian said Tuesday that whatever the changes in the international situation, China and Thailand, since they forged diplomatic ties 25 years ago, have supported each other to make great contributions to regional peace, stability, and development.Chi made the remarks during a meeting with Mongkon Ampornpisit, supreme commander of the Armed Forces of Thailand. Chi, also vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission and a State Councilor, said that bilateral exchanges in the military field between China and Thailand have developed comprehensively, and this is helpful for promoting friendly relations between the two countries. Chi said that China is willing to work with Thailand to make every effort to promote mutual trust and friendship so as to strengthen cooperation and contacts. He expressed his gratitude for the Thai government's support of China on the Taiwan issue, and said the Chinese government prefers peaceful reunification, but the one-China principle is unshakable, and the Chinese PLA will not sit idly by in the event of any attempt to split the motherland. Mongkon said the Thai government adheres to the one-China principle, and voiced his hope of maintaining the steady and healthy development of the existing friendship between the two armed forces.
