China to Construct Xi'an-Nanjing Railway

A ceremony inaugurating the construction of Xi'an-Nanjing Railway was called by the Ministry of Railways at Qinling Tunnel, Shaanxi Province, according to a news dispatch in our Daily.

A key project to boost western China development, Xi'an-Nanjing Railway is to be built from Xingfengzhen Railway Station in Xi'an city to eastern Hefei marshalling station, threading through 4 provinces and eight cities, over a distance of 955 kilometers. The construction will take 5 years, at a cost of RMB$23.19 billion yuan.

Xi'an-Nanjing Railway will accordingly yank economic ties and opening up of various industrial and mineral resources as of petroleum, alkali and iron in China's eastern, central and western areas. Also, when speaking of direct gains from construction of the line, it will surely do its fullest part in doing away with long-standing poverty in the areas said and for an increased flexibility to be got by the railway an overall growth of the Chinese economy will be assured.
