China's Steel Production on UpswingChina witnessed a steady growth of steel production in the first quarter this year, with the output growing a year-on-year 3.2 percent to reach 29.83 million tons, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.The output of steel products hit 29.17 million tons in the three months, surging 8.6 percent on an annual basis. Production of large rolled steel surged 11.1 percent year on year to 321,900 tons, that of medium rolled steel went up 1.5 percent to 1.15 million tons, and that of small rolled steel up 3. 5 percent to 7.20 million tons. In the three months, China turned out a total of 6.13 million tons of wire rod, up 2.2 percent over the same period last year. Production of thin steel plate, during that period, soared 17.0 percent to hit 4.73 million tons. The period also saw production of pig iron grow by 9.9 percent to reach 31.06 million tons. |
