UN General Assembly President Delivers Speech in Beijing

Theo-Ben Gurirab, president of the 54th United Nations General Assembly and Namibian foreign minister, said Tuesday that the Sino-Afican Forum slated for October will serve as another milestone in the further expansion and deepening of cooperation between the two sides.

In a speech delivered at the Foreign Affairs College, Gurirab said that China has long supported all the just causes of the African peoples.

He noted that the two sides are continuing to build mutually supportive and rewarding relations.

China and Namibia are old friends and trusting cooperative partners, according to Gurirab. He added that the exchanges of official visits at various levels have further strengthened bilateral cooperation in the economic and technical fields. He stressed that the Namibian government will steadfastly stick to the one-China principle.

After his speech, Gurirab accepted the title of honorary professor granted by the Foreign Affairs College.

Gurirab and his party, who are here as guest of Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan, are scheduled to leave Beijing for Hong Kong this afternoon.
