Pyongyang Circus Troupe Arrives in SeoulNorth Korea's Pyongyang Circus Troupe landed in Seoul May 29, scheduled to perform in Seoul for the first time ever.The 102-member circus troupe departed Pyongyang early in the morning and arrived at Kimpo Airport at 3:30 p.m. with a stopover in Beijing on a chartered aircraft. With all the women dressed in green skirts and white tops and the men in sombre grey suits, the circus troupe came out of the airport doors to crowds waving 'welcome' signs and the music of a 65-piece wind ensemble from Daewon All-Girls High School. Kim Yu-sik, head of the visiting circus troupe, said that they had come with "the people's hope for reunification. We hope to make this an event that will contribute to reunification by putting an end to misunderstanding." Starting with the June 3 performance at the Chamsil Sports Complex at 7p.m., they will be giving 13 shows until their expected departure date on the June 10. Among some of the promised highlights are dazzling feats on the high-wire and the trapeze. After a grueling 13-day schedule in Seoul, the troupe is scheduled to return to North Korea boarding on June 11 at around 3 p.m. at Kimpo Airport. |
