Last Year Witnessed a Sound Boom in EducationStatistics issued by the Ministry of Education show that China made a remarkable achievement in education last year and it saw a sound boom in all types of education at various levels.Nine-year compulsory education from primary to junior middle school made a big headway. By the end of last year, the nine-year compulsory education covered 80% of the schooling population. There were as many as 582, 300 primary schools last year with 135.4796 million pupils in the country. Junior-middle schools registered at 64400, with 58.1165 million students on campus and 49.94% of them entered senior high schools. Senior-high schools registered 38,600 last year, with an enrollment of 25.1037 million students, of which the general high schools enrolled 3.9632 million students, an increase of 10.23%, with 10.4971 million students on campus. Vocational high schools enrolled 4.7327 million students, with students registered at 14.1751 million. China's education of high learning keeps fast development.1999 registered 1,071 institutes of high learning and those for adults topped 871, with a total of 7.1819 million college students. Postgraduate institutes numbered 775, including 446 universities and 329 scientific research institutions, with 233,500 students. Students pursuing after non-academic qualification education reached 2.5528 million. Adult technical training schools registered at 534200 with 101.5688 million students. |
