Tang Jiaxuan Meets Japanese Guests

Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met in Beijing on Monday with the secretaries-general of the three coalition parties of the Japanese government, Hiromu Nonaka of the Liberal Democratic Party, Tetsuzo Fuyushiba of the New Komeito Party, and Takeshi Noda of the New Conservative Party.

Tang reiterated the Chinese government's position of developing good-neighborly and friendly relations with Japan.

He said that he hopes that Japan will continue to properly handle existing problems in bilateral relations so as to maintain healthy and stable development between the two countries.

Hiromu Nonaka said Japan and China should do their best to promote friendly cooperation, so as to contribute to the well-being of the two peoples and to peace and development in Asia.

Hiromu Nonaka said Japan will strictly observe the principles and spirits enshrined in relevant documents between the two countries in handling historical issues and the Taiwan issue.

Tetsuzo Fuyushiba said his Party will also adhere to the principles and spirits in the three major documents, including the joint statement between the two countries, and try to prevent any individuals from interfering in bilateral relations to ensure continuous development of bilateral relations.

Takeshi Noda emphasized his Party's support to the current cabinet led by Prime Minister Yoshiro Mori in developing friendly relations with China.

The Japanese guests arrived here today for a goodwill visit to China on behalf of Yoshiro Mori.
