West Lake Festival Attracts 8 Million Visitors

The "Spring in West Lake" festival has attracted 8.4 million visitors from both China and abroad, a local tourism official said Tuesday.

West Lake is one of the most beautiful and famous scenic spots in China, and is one of the reasons Hangzhou in Zhejiang Province is nicknamed "Heaven on Earth."

Hangzhou began holding the "Spring in West Lake" festival last year, and today it was announced that the number of visitors to the festival this year has increased by 35.6 percent over last year.

According to local tourism officials, a flowers show, spring tea show, folk arts and cultures, and theater performances will be highlights of the festival.

The festival begins on March 3 and will probably last more than two months, under the sponsorship of the Hangzhou City People's Government and the Hangzhou City Tourism Bureau.
