5.9 % of Chinese City Residents Surf Internet

According to a recent survey, about 5.9 percent of Chinese urbanites has the experience of surfing the Internet.

It is reported that this survey covers 30,000 samples of 31 Chinese cities, representing over 100 million people of 500 Chinese cities. These are first-hand data.

The survey shows that the computer owning rate of Chinese families reaches 14.2 percent, Among these families, 26.7 percent of the family members have the experience of going online and 3.8 percent have access to internet at home. Among all the city dwellers, 5.9 percent have the experience of surfing the Internet. Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, the first-line cities of China, have the largest number of network surfers to reach about 9.6 percent, Hangzhou, Xi'an and other second-line cities, 6.5 percent, and the third-line cities like Foshan, 4.7 percent.

Among these people, the proportion of male is higher than female, and young people higher than people of other age bracket, and the better educated these surfers are, the higher is their proportion.

The most frequently visited web sites last month are Yahoo!, sohu and sina.

This survey is the first nationwide IT survey activity.
