China to Accelerate Construction of Forest Ecological Network System
According to an official with the State Bureau of Forestry, China will focus on the Eco-environment protection and construction in the western region of China and speed up the construction of forest ecological networking system.
The official explained that the project system refers to building a network system which takes forest trees as the main part, three-dimensionally develops arbor, bush and grass in an intensive and dynamic way and contains three major types: point, line and area. "Point" refers to the forestation and beautification of over 50,000 cities and towns; "line" refers to the large-scale forest belts along banks of the Yangtze River, the Yellow River, the Huaihe River, the Pearl River, the Liaohe River, the Haihe River, the Heilongjiang River and coastlines or along highway and railway trunk lines; "area" refers to the construction of eight major forest zones: the northeast, the northwest, the Loess Plateau, north China, the southwest, the tropics and the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
It's said that the construction of the system is ultimately to increase the total volume of forest, to raise its quality, to build a forest ecological environment of balanced-distribution, reasonable structure, complete function and economic benefit as well as to realize the long-term stability of the land and sustainable economic and social development. It fits the national condition of China, is the necessary choice for promoting the coordinated development of man and nature, forest and environment, the environment and the economic society, it will exert far-reaching influence on the overall improvement of China's ecological environment.
