Fujimori Heading to Victory in Peruvian Presidential ElectionPeruvian President Alberto Fujimori is likely to win his third term as head of this South American country in the run-off election on Sunday, according to the preliminary result released by the election authorities. With 30 percent of the total votes counted, Fujimori gained 75. 22 percent of valid votes, said the result. His rival in the run-off, Alejandro Toledo of the Peru Possible coalition, who had won 40.31 percent support in the first round of election in April, got 24.78 percent of the votes already counted, albeit he boycotted the run-off. The country's election authorities ratified May 28 as the date of the run-off election, after Fujimori failed to claim an outright victory in the first round of polling on April 9, in which he obtained 49.89 percent support. Toledo, who conditioned his participation in the second round to a postponement of the date, did not ballot Sunday and called on voters not to vote either after his bid to quit the run-off was turned down by the national election committee.
