China's Listed Computer Companies Report Good Performance

China's 22 listed computer companies gained an average of 0.35 yuan per share in 1999, 75 percent higher than the average level of all listed firms on the Chinese stock markets.

The 11 software companies earned 0.47 yuan per share, while the hardware firms achieved 0.26 yuan per share.

Experts said in Shanghai these results tally with the overall performance of the Chinese computer industry last year.

Recent statistics show that the listed computer companies generated a total of 18.9 billion yuan (about US$2.27 billion) in sales in 1999, an increase of 30 percent on a yearly basis.

All the software companies were profitable, with their profits surging 66.9 percent, while two hardware firms suffered losses.
