HKSAR-Taiwan Ties under One China Principle: HK OfficialThe government of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) lately reaffirmed its stance to deal with relations with Taiwan, following the One-China principle and "seven basic policies" issued by the State Council in 1995.Mak Ching-hung, secretary in charge of Constitutional Affairs made the remarks when giving a written reply to HK Legislative Council on the question of HK-Taiwan relations. He stated clearly that the HKSAR government has consistently followed the procedures and policies on endorsing Taiwanese entry permissions into HK and Taiwan "officials" can make private visits to the special administrative region. The government will handle applications in light with current situations and make final decisions after fully weighing things over. The official also pointed out that the government firmly stand for China's reunification and hoped that the Taiwan new leader will recognize in clear-cut terms the one-China principle in contributing to the country's peaceful reunification at an early possible date. |
