Australian Trade Representative Office to Open in Kunming

A commercial delegation led by Mark Vaile, Australian minister for trade, lately paid an official visit to Kunming, capital city of Yunan Province, in order to discuss with Yunnan government the preparatory work of establishing Kunming branch office as a subsidiary Under Australian Trade Representative's Office in China.

A commercial office in Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan Province, will also be set up, in contrast with those formerly established, concentrated in eastern cities, such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou, Nanjing, and Dalian.

The Australian Trade Commission (Austrade) considers the western areas of China as a key region of development in the future 5 to 10 years, said the minister. The western areas, with a population of 286 million, and half of China's land area and one fourth of its GNP, is a new market for Australia to promote export trade, the minister added.
