Hong Kong Associated Exchange declared recently that the NASDAQ-AMEX Pilot Plan would formally begin on May 31. Seven NASDAQ stocks including Dell Computer, Intel, Microsoft, will simultaneously get listed in Hong Kong. The exchange unit of the stocks of STARBUCKS and Dell is 20 shares. The unit of the rest five stocks is 10 shares. Hong Kong Associated Exchange explained that they cut down on the number of shares for each deal to further arouse the desire of bulk shareholders to participate in the market. Take STARBUCKS, whose stock price is the lowest, for example, even after a slump, the price of each share is still valued at over US$ 28.31 (about HK$220.5). The stock of Intel, the most expensive one, exceeds US$ 109.88 (about HK$856) per share.
If the seven NASDAQ stocks are calculated by 100 shares per exchange, the lowest price of each exchange will be higher than HK$20,000. The price of the most expensive stocks will be HK$85,600. The price of STARBUCKS, the cheapest one, will be HK$220,000 if it is calculated by 1,000 shares for each exchange. The price of the Intel will be HK$850,000 in the exchange, which will certainly beyond the endurance of normal bulk shareholders.
