Chinese Officials Inspect Landslide-hit Area in Tibet
A work panel of Chinese central government officials arrived in the landslide hit area at the Yigong river in Powo County in Tibet Autonomous Region to direct relief work on Sunday.
More than 4,000 local residents were stranded by floods after one of the world's largest landslides occurred and blocked the Yigong river on the evening of April 9.
The officials listened to reports about relief work upon their arrival and went to the site of landslide to inspect relief efforts.
The central government has paid great attention to the life of the Tibetan people affected by the natural disaster. Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao and State Councilors Luo Gan and Wang Zhongyu have sent directives to the area.
Relief personnel are working around the clock to open temporary transportation roads to mountainous areas and divert floods.
Flood levels are still rising.
