Restructuring of Geological Work Urged in China

Vice-Premier Wen Jiabao has called on the geological circles to further restructure their management, stay in step with economic development and contribute more to the socialist modernization drive.

The vice-premier also asked the geological circles to keep closer tabs on science and technology developments worldwide, and make use of more advanced theories and technologies in their exploration and evaluation of mineral resources and the geological environment.

Wen, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, was speaking at the third national conference on stratigraphic geology held in Beijing Saturday.

In his address, Wen stressed that the geological work should open more to the outside world to increase international exchanges and cooperation.
