China to Promote Business Exchanges in APEC

Vice Premier Qian Qichen said in Beijing Friday that China never wavers from its belief that development differences among the members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) should be reduced by expanding economic and technological cooperation.

China will spare no effort to promote the contacts and exchanges among businesses of APEC members, Qian said at a banquet here this evening to welcome the representatives attending the second meeting of the Business Advisory Council (ABAC) under the APEC.

Over 100 representatives from 21 APEC members attended the three-day meeting which was kicked off today. This is the first time China has held the meeting of the council.

Qian spoke highly of ABAC, saying that the council, as a consultation organ of APEC, has offered many valuable suggestions on expanding trade and investment, finance, development of small and medium-sized enterprises and enhancing regional exchanges and cooperation.

These suggestions have played a positive role in the development of APEC, Qian noted.

The ABAC has also acted as a channel linking the governments and businesses, thus creating a sound environment for the advancement of the businesses and encouraging more enterprises to take part in APEC activities, Qian added.
