Shanghai Opens First Hospital Named After DoctorShanghai's first hospital named after a doctor opened Thursday. The Xi Jiuyi Vascular Hospital is a subsidiary of the city's Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Hospital. The new facility with 80 beds shares resources with the parent hospital, but is financially independent and has its own personnel and research teams. The new hospital is named after its dean, Xi Jiuyi, a prominent cardiovascular surgeon who was among the first group of medical scientists to receive the special subsidies of the State Council. The former vascular department of the Chinese and western medicine hospital had a cure rate of more than 95 percent; only 3 or 4 percent of the patients require amputations. Its reputation attracted patients from all over the country, but its 40 beds could not accommodate the increasing number of patients. |
