China Builds World's Highest Electricity Transmitting Towers

Two electricity transmitting towers, believed to be the world's highest, are being built across the Yangtze River in east China's Jiangsu Province.

The two 346.5-meter-high towers with a spanning of 2,303 meters have created two world records, in terms of their height and spanning, according to local officials.

The pair of towers are part of the east China power grids which transmits electricity to the eastern part of China from the country's western and central areas.

As China's most economically developed area, east China has long suffered from an electricity shortage. The completion of the power grids are expected to alleviate the power supply pressure in the region.
