Government Stance on Cross-Straits Ties Supported

The China Council for the Promotion of Peaceful Reunification, and the Huangpu (formerly Whampoa) Military Academy Alumni Association jointly held a forum Thursday to show their firm support for the reunification of China and their strong opposition to "Taiwan independence."

Speakers from the two organizations aired their support for the authorized statement on cross-Straits ties issued by the Taiwan Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on May 20.

Luo Haocai, a vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and chairman of the council, criticized the new Taiwan leader for his evasive and blurry attitudes toward the one China Principle.

He urged the Taiwan leader to conform to historic trends and public opinion, and make a wise choice so as to avoid becoming someone marked as guilty by history.

Lin Shangyuan, a vice chairman of the alumni association, said that every Chinese has the duty and obligation to oppose splittism and "Taiwan independence" and make contributions to the reunification of the motherland.
