Beijing Reception Held to Mark "African Liberation Day"African envoys in Beijing hosted a reception Thursday to mark the 37th anniversary of "African Liberation Day," the day the Organization of African Unity (OAU) was founded.Chinese Vice-Premier Qian Qichen and ambassadors to China of several African countries attended the reception. Qian said that the OAU has always been at the forefront of the struggle waged by African countries to win independence and liberation, promote peace and stability on the continent, and boost regional cooperation and economic development, and has made important contributions to this end. Although Africa, the continent with the highest concentration of developing countries, is faced with many difficulties and challenges, Qian said, "We are confident that, with the guidance of the concept of African unity as advocated by the OAU, and with the concerted efforts of all African countries, as well as assistance from the international community, Africa will be able to overcome all difficulties and usher in a new era of peace and development." On Sino-African cooperation, Qian said that further strengthening solidarity and cooperation between China and Africa will undoubtedly be of great significance for enhancing South- South cooperation and for promoting establishment of a just and rational new international political and economic order, as well as the realization of common prosperity and development for all countries. |
