Chinese Police Free Abducted Judicial ClerkA 26-year-old woman who was recently kidnapped from her workplace and sold to a farmer in Inner Mongolia has been rescued by local police, the Ministry of Public Security said Thursday.The victim, who has the surname Zhang, is a clerk with the Justice Bureau of Jiangyou in southwest China's Sichuan Province. She was kidnapped and sold to a farmer in Xinghe County in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. A ministry official said that last December, two kidnappers disguised as businessmen asked Zhang to act as a notary at an agreement-signing ceremony. When Zhang arrived at the appointed place she was immediately kidnapped and taken to Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region to be sold and forced to become a farmer's wife. She repeatedly attempted to write SOS letters, but she was denied any chance to mail them, because her "husband" and "father- in-law" kept a close eye on her. In April this year, Zhang found out by watching news programs on television that the Ministry of Public Security was launching an anti-abduction drive. She tried to find some way to escape. Finally, she got a chance to send an SOS letter to local police with help of a visiting housewife. The kidnappers have been arrested. Zhang's "father-in-law" has been detained but her "husband" is still at large, police said. |
