CPC Expels Two Senior Officials in ChongqingTwo senior official in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality were expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) for malfeasance, the CPC Central Commission for Disciplinary Inspection announced Thursday.Qin Changdian, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Municipal People's Congress of Chongqing, and Wang Shihui, vice- chairman of the Municipal Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, will also be stripped their official posts and brought to court for criminal prosecution, according to a proposal made by the CPC commission. Qin and Wang, when serving as deputy mayor, and head of the local economic and trade commission, respectively, were found by the Party disciplinary bodies to have been responsible for importing a production line that was never used, causing a total loss of 10.190 million U.S. dollars. Qin and Wang also accepted 3,000 U.S. dollars and 2,500 U.S. dollars in cash, respectively, as well as gold jewelry, during the period from December 1990 to March 1994 from the foreign company that sold the production line, the commission said. The two officials have broken the law, and were responsible for promoting the importation of shoddy equipment, according to the authorities. |
