U.S. PPG Expands China Business

The Pittsburgh Plate Glass Corporation (PPG), a U.S. based plate glass and coating producer, will spend US$7 million to upgrade its four white carbon black plants in China.

A PPG source said the move is designed to meet the increasing demand for white carbon black in the Asia-Pacific region.

The upgrade includes US$1.3 million to be used on a new production line in PPG's Nanchang plant, a major white carbon black producer in Nanchang, capital of east China's Jiangxi Province.

The plan went into operation seven years ago and has since produced 120,000 tons of white carbon black.

With annual sales of US$7.8 billion, PPG has invested a total of US$60 million in China in the past several years.
