Guangzhou Forges Friendly Ties With Durban

Guangzhou, capital of south China's Guangdong Province, has forged friendly ties with the city of Durban in South Africa.

Durban is the 12th foreign city Guangzhou has established friendly relations with since 1979 when Guangzhou built friendly ties with Fukuoka City in Japan.

Cultural and trade exchanges have been expanding between Guangzhou and South Africa since January 1, 1998 when China and South Africa established diplomatic relations.

An economic and trade delegation from Guangzhou visited Durban and struck a number of business deals with local businesses later last year. Two schools were chosen to take part in cultural exchanges.

According to local sources, Guangzhou will also send a group of athletes to attend a sports meet of friendly cities scheduled to be held in Durban City this year.
