Southwest Sea Access Expected by 2004

A passageway providing southwest's sea access from Chongqing Municipality to Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Zhanjiang, Guangdong Province will be completed by 2004, according to a news dispatch from the Transportation Bureau of Chongqing.

The 11-hundred-kilometer passageway will extend from Chengdu, capital city of Sichuan to Zhanjiang. It will be an expressway, being the last bottlenecking project, from Leishengdian of Chongqing to Zhunyi of Guizhou Province, its construction will begin the coming year.

The highway between Chengdu and Chongqing was opened in 1995 and the primary stage from Tongjiayuanzi to Leishengdian of the Chongqing-Guizhou highway is being under intensive construction and scheduled to be opened next year. The building of other parts of the whole route in Guangxi and Zhunyi-Guangxi has also been phased out and predicted to be finished by next yearend.
