The Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Water Resources jointly issued an urgent notice recently, calling on departments at all levels to fully realize the seriousness and harm of drought occurring in most parts of north China, and take immediate action to ensure the "three summer jobs" (i.e. summer harvesting, summer planting, and summer field management.)
Due to shortage of rainfall and frequent strong winds, most areas in north China have been hit by a serious drought since the beginning of spring. This long-lasting and wide-ranging drought has seriously affected spring sowing and plowing and the production of summer grain crops, causing great difficulty in ensuring adequate drinking water for people and animals in some regions.
The notice calls for strengthened leadership, careful planning and mental preparation for a long-term fight against drought. It demands that cadres and technical personnel be organized to go to the anti-drought frontline to do technical guidance and service work well, and strive to win support from relevant departments.
