The Shangdi IT Base, part of Beijing's Zhongguancun High-Tech Park, is fast growing into a major link in China's high-tech chain.
The base achieved 14.2 billion yuan (some US$1.7 billion) of industrial output last year, up 53 percent from the previous year.
With a total area of 1.8 sq km, the base now has 264 high-tech firms and branches, including Legend, Founder, IBM, and GE. "Thousands of business people from both home and abroad visit our base every year," said an official from the Shangdi Base.
According to the official, this year the base will be expanded by nearly 50 ha, as part of the Beijing Municipal Government's efforts to further develop the high-tech sector.
