Chinese Nuclear Power Plants Operating Smoothly

China's two nuclear power plants, Qinshan and Daya Bay, have both maintained a satisfactory safety record ever since they went into operation.

"They have been operating quite smoothly and no major accidents have occurred," said Zhang Huazhu, Chairman of the China Atomic Energy Authority.

Zhang made the remarks at China's Third Forum on Nuclear Emergency Control which opened today in Nanjing, capital of east China's Jiangsu Province.

The three-day meeting, which has attracted more than 150 officials and experts from the Chinese nuclear power industry, is focusing on exploring ways to further guarantee the safety of nuclear power in China.

China now has four nuclear power projects under construction. They are the second and third phases of the Qinshan Nuclear Power Plant in east China's Zhejiang Province, the Ling'ao Nuclear Power Plant in Guangdong Province in the south, and the Tianwan Nuclear Power Station in Jiangsu.
