World Heritage Site to Host International Art Festival

The county of Dazu in southwest China's Chongqing Municipality will host an international art festival from June 5 to 10.

During the six-day event, business, trade and tourism promotion activities and cultural exchanges will also be held. Meanwhile, the county will open a group of new scenic spots and three new tourism routes.

Preferential policies will be worked out to encourage domestic and overseas investment in the tourist sector, according to a local senior official.

Dazu, well known for more than 50,000 stone sculptures in northwestern Chongqing, was put on the World Heritage List in 1999.

The majority of the sculptures were carved during the late Tang Dynasty (618-907) and the Song Dynasty (960-1279). And the Dazu sculptures marked the second consummate level of carving arts in Chinese history.
