PLA Chief of General Staff Meets Pakistani Guests

Fu Quanyou, chief of General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA),met Wednesday with Abdul Aziz Mirza, chief of the naval staff of Pakistan.

Fu, also member of the Central Military Commission, spoke highly of the state and military relations between China and Pakistan.

He said that as China and Pakistan are neighboring countries, the two peoples have enjoyed long-term friendship.

He added that the bilateral relations have developed rapidly and the military exchanges are satisfactory since the two countries forged diplomatic ties.

On the Taiwan issue, Fu said that recently the new leader in Taiwan adopted an evasive and vague attitude towards the one China principle which serves as the premise and foundation in settlement of the Taiwan issue.

He noted that the PLA will not sit around idly at any attempts to split Chinese sovereignty and territorial integrity. Fu also briefed the guests on China's domestic situation and army building.

Mirza said that Pakistan holds that Taiwan is part of Chinese territory, and that it will adhere to China's stance on the Taiwan issue.
