More Legal Aid Provided for Disabled People in China

As many as 2,642 law firms across the country have been designated by the China Disabled Persons Federation to provide legal aid for the disabled, an official from the federation disclosed Wednesday.

By the end of last year, 251 prefectures and cities and 1,273 counties have established Legal Aid Centers, the official said.

Other legal institutions such as notary offices, legal-aid volunteers organizations have also offered legal counseling, legal aid and other legal services to protect the legitimate rights of handicapped people.

Providing aid for the disabled has become a hot topic of concern after U.S. movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger began his Special Olympics China Millennium March on May 18.

On May 21, the State Council held a gathering to award outstanding aid-the-disabled volunteers across the country.
