Seminar Focuses on Hi-tech DevelopmentShanghai's Pudong New Area will again under the spotlight of the country as big names from all over the world gather in Shanghai next month seeking ways to speed up the growth of the country's nascent high-tech industry.Senior executives from central and local government administrations, large multinationals, banking, venture capital and high-tech industries, will all attend the two-day conference entitled "the Financing and Developing of the high-tech Industry in China,'' which starts on June 19. "Issues related to venture capital development, capital market IPOs, and technology transfer will be hot topics at this conference,'' said Daniel Zhu, conference programme director of US-based The Conference Board (TCB) -- a leading not-for-profit conference organization whose membership makes up 95 per cent of top 500 multinationals. "And the conference will also benefit senior executives, project owners, venture capitalist, bankers, legal experts, consultants, government officials, and those involved in contributing their expertise to Chinese high-tech and infrastructure developments,'' said Zhu, at the press conference Tuesday in Shanghai. The conference, organized by TCB and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Pudong Sub-council, is also believed to serve in drawing the world's attention so as to spur its own fledging high-tech industry. "Pudong hopes to obtain a much faster economic growth by capitalizing on sound growth of its high-tech industry, '' said Wang Xinling, executive deputy secretary general of the CCIPT Pudong. Although the city has established a major framework to become a modern international metropolis, its high-tech industry has laggard behind some other Chinese cities, such as Beijing and Shenzhen. Wang said he hopes the conference would be a incentive to power the growth of the high-tech industry in the city. |
