McDonald's Comes to Central China

Sino-US Henan McDonald's Food Co., Ltd was set up recently in Zhengzhou, capital of China's most populous province of Henan in central China.

This was the initial result of a 25-year cooperation agreement signed by the U.S. fast food giant and the Zhengzhou Friendship Commercial Group Corp.

In accordance with the agreement, McDonald's will open ten outlets in Henan in the coming three years and the first fast food outlet will open for business in July.

McDonald's is confident in expanding its business in the huge Chinese market, said Zhu Yuan, vice president of the McDonald's Chinese Investment Corporation.

Henan has a population of 93 million, or one-thirteenth of China's total.

McDonald's has opened 26,000 restaurants in 119 countries and regions since the first restaurant opened in the United States in 1955. Its business turnover reached 38 billion U.S. dollars in 1999.

By the end of April this year, there have been 261 McDonald's restaurants in 49 cities across China.
