It is reported that over 800 new species of insects have been found in Tibet. Tibet not only preserves a lot of ancient and rare categories of creatures in terms of the system of its insects, but also continuously breeds many new species.
It is said that because of the unique landforms, wide gap in altitude, distinctive and varied types of climate and the characteristics of vegetation and insects in terms of systems and adaptability to evolution, about one-fourth of the over 4,200 insect species found in Tibet are peculiar to the region.
Experts found that more than 50 percent of the insects in the high and cold grasslands and grassy marshlands in the center of the plateau are unique to Tibet and some 31 such insects are spread in the area over 5,000 meters above sea level.
