Premier Zhu Rongji and Vice-Premiers Li Lanqing, Qian Qichen and Wu Bangguo attended a science lecture in Beijing Tuesday to learn more about the securities markets.
The speaker was Dr. Gao Xiqing, vice-chairman of the China Securities Regulatory Commission (CSRC).
The 47-year-old Gao graduated from the Beijing Foreign Trade Institute in 1981 and received his law degree from Duke University of the United States in 1986. He was appointed CSRC vice-chairman in July, 1999.
Gao briefed the leaders on capital allocation in a market economy, the function and role of a securities market, and the current problems and prospects of China's stock exchanges.
The Chinese leaders also exchanged views with the speaker during the lecture, which was sponsored by the General Office of the State Council.
