FM Spokeswoman on Japanese Loans to China

The Chinese Government highly values the positive role of Japanese loans to China in promoting China's economic growth and China-Japan economic and trade cooperation, Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue said Tuesday.

Answering a question concerning the Japanese loans at a regular press conference, Zhang said that the cooperation between China and Japan is mutually beneficial, and has brought about positive results to both sides.

"China hopes the cooperation will continue smoothly," Zhang said.

On China's foreign assistance, Zhang said that since the founding of new China in 1949, China has offered a certain amount of foreign assistance to and built cooperative projects in some countries on the basis of equality, friendship and mutual benefit, and that this has nothing to do with the Japanese loans.
