China Develops Optic-Electronics Information Industry of Her Own

With the plans for optical valley construction to be carried out, the optic-electronics information industry in inaugurating a new rising national economy has now been fast developing in China.

Technology-slated metropolitan city Wuhan has already been in the way to put into practice its China Optical Valley plan, according to which it plans to invest 30 billion yuan in the coming 5 years to build a 50 sq.m. optic-electronics information industry belt; by the end of 2005, the yearly output value to be created according to plan will exceed 100 billion yuan as in the way a topnotch optic-electronics information industry belt known as the world largest is to be created in China.

Guangdong Province and U.S. Lucent Technology Company have announced to co-invest 12 billion yuan in establishing Guangdong Optical Valley. Alcatel, Siemens, Ericsson and other world well-known companies all have also shown a strong interest in the construction of like investment projects in China.

However experts say though China gives the largest optic-electronics information market potential to the world, its industrialization level has still been not well developed as it should have been. This is because China still has to import half of its optical fiber from abroad inasmuch a 68% of its optical communication equipment market occupied by foreign companies.
