State Council Holds Executive Meeting

State Council Tuesday approved the Draft Provisional Methods on Compensation in Floodwater-Storing Areas and Draft Amendments on the Fishery Law.

The two drafts were approved at the 28th executive meeting of the Chinese cabinet, which was presided over by Premier Zhu Rongji. Executive members of the State Council agreed that it is necessary to maintain the normal operation of floodwater-storing areas by stipulating the provisional methods on compensation in accordance with the Law on Flood Control.

They also supported the need to amend the Fishery Law as there have been changes and developments in the country's fishing industry since the law was implemented on July 1, 1986.

The revised provisional drafts will be enacted by the State Council. Draft amendments on the Fishery Law will be handed over to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress for examination and approval.
